As a Camarillo family photographer, one of my favorite things is finding locations that feel effortless and beautiful. Hill Canyon Trail in Camarillo is exactly that — tucked into the hills, it has a way of making everything feel a little slower. It was the perfect backdrop for this sweet family of four.
Why Hill Canyon Trail Is One of My Favorite Spots
If you haven’t been to Hill Canyon Trail, it’s a wonderful place to photograph families in Ventura County. The trail offers many different scenes and backdrops, giving you great variety in a single location.
Easy Access for Every Family
One thing I love most about this spot — especially for families with little ones — is how accessible it is. Parking is directly across from the trailhead. We’re not hiking up a mountain. The trail is easy for toddlers to wander. It’s smooth enough to push a stroller if needed.
A Central Location in Ventura County
Hill Canyon Trail sits in Camarillo, making it a great central spot. Families come from Thousand Oaks, Moorpark, Oxnard, and everywhere in between. The golden hour light is stunning. It’s also a great location for morning shoots. Later in the day works too, thanks to trees and mountains that provide beautiful open shade.
About This Family Session
This session featured a wonderful family of four — a toddler, her baby brother, and their adoring parents.
The Toddler Who Led the Way
We let the toddler lead, and I quickly found myself getting my cardio in. She ran joyfully back and forth through the grass. If there’s something I love to capture, it’s joy and movement — and we got plenty of both.
The Sweetest Baby Boy
This little guy was calm, happy, and completely go-with-the-flow. This age is always such a joy to photograph. There’s something special about capturing the emerging personality of a new little person.
Parents Who Let Their Kids Shine
Mom and dad were wonderful. They were happy to let their kids take the lead and simply be themselves. It’s always a pleasure working with parents who have a special energy and a noticeable joy when they’re with their children. My job is to capture that — to create an atmosphere where everyone feels free to be themselves and make real memories. This family has something truly special, and I felt lucky to spend the evening with them.
These Moments Go Fast
The baby who still fits snugly in your arms. The toddler discovering the world — and letting you see it through her eyes. These are the days. The little details will matter so much when they are grown and off on their next adventure.
